Welcome to Kattitude Bengals BENGAL FAQ Page.

Below are some Frequently Asked Questions about bengals and their overall care and well being. We hope this valuable info helps you.

What is the Typical Bengal Personality?

Bengals are very active, intelligent, playful, and social. They demand your attention and your time. Typically they are happiest with another Bengal or family pet. Most of our kittens leave in pairs or within a few months of each other. Their intelligence makes them easy to train. They have very strong reasoning abilities in which they can figure out how to get in or out of about anything they want. Opening cabinets. drawers and even doors is typical behavior for a Bengal. They love high places and are very athletic. Many Bengals love water and may even shower with you. Many Bengals will sleep with you in your bed at night and sit with you, but they are not a lap cat or a couch potato. Bengals will follow you around the house that is why we call them the velcro cat.

Do Bengals get along well with children?

Bengals generally do well with children and other pets but again are very demanding for your time and attention. Of course children need to be taught how to interact and handle a Bengal just as they would with any family pet.

Do Bengals get along well with other pets?

As a rule Bengals thrive when there is another cat in the home. Another Bengal companion would be the best choice. However, some of our Bengals play just as well with a dog. It all depends on the personalities of each animal. We love placing our Bengals in pairs and give a price adjustment when 2 are purchased together.

What if I can't afford 2 kittens at the same time?

If purchasing 2 kittens together is not financially feasible we suggest getting an older Bengal such as a retired breeder so your kitten will have a playmate. We have retired breeders from time to time as do other Bengal breeders.

How do I choose a breeder?

When selecting a Bengal or any pet, you should choose your breeder first, then pick your kitten. Purchasing a kitten from someone just based on price, pictures and/or availability at that time can easily turn into an unhappy event. Ask lots of questions. Does the breeder screen all of the breeding cats for HCM? Was the HCM screen performed by a board certified cardiologist? Ask to see a copy of the results of the most recent screen completed on the sire and dam of the litter. A responsible breeder should have a written sales contract that includes a health guarantee. Ask what breed and cat associations the breeder is affiliated with. The International Bengal Cat Society (TIBCS) is a well respected Bengal breed club. Breeders that are members must sign a Code of Ethics and adhere to it. TIBCS keeps a disciplinary list published on their web site, www.bengalcat.com. Check that to make sure the breeder you are considering is not listed on the disciplinary list. The International Cat Association is a registration organization for all breeds of cats. Ask the breeder if their cats are registered with TICA. Is the kitten you are considering eligible to be TICA registered. Don't be afraid to ask for references, breeder's veterinarian's name, and any other information that will help in your making an educated decision about the breeder. Ask yourself if you feel comfortable buying from the breeder. Unfortunately there are people who breed Bengals as a money making endeavor. Their emphasis is on quantity not quality. As a breeder who been breeding for over 10 years, I can tell you that for a 24/7 commitment, it is not for the money. We produce a small number of litters per year. Some years we may only have 1 or 2 litters. Bengals are our passion. We believe in creating the healthiest and best Bengals we can.
